Get Smart…With a New Thermostat
Agent 86 may have had a few gadgets up his sleeve (or under his shoe), but none of them could do what a smart thermostat was designed to do! Smart thermostats save you money. Period. With careful planning and the help of the intelligent scheduling built right in to the thermostat, you can save big bucks on your heating and cooling bills. Best of all, using a smart thermostat, all these cost-saving adjustments happen automatically.
How A Smart Thermostat Works
Smart thermostats hook up to your home Wi‑Fi and talk to your HVAC system. They replace old dial or basic digital thermostats and use sensors, phone apps, and smart learning to automatically control heating and cooling and save energy.
A smart thermostat improves comfort, convenience, and energy savings by learning your schedule, adjusting temperatures automatically, and allowing remote control from your phone; it can reduce heating and cooling costs through precise, programmable setpoints and adaptive algorithms, provide useful energy reports and usage insights to help you identify savings opportunities, integrate with HVAC systems and smart home devices for coordinated efficiency, and send maintenance alerts or filter reminders that prolong equipment life and prevent costly breakdowns.
Some Things to Look Out For
Avoid setting your thermostat at a colder setting than normal when you turn on your air conditioner. It will not cool your home any faster and could result in excessive cooling and, therefore, unnecessary expense.
A common misconception associated with thermostats is that an HVAC system works harder than normal to cool the space back to a comfortable temperature after the thermostat has been set higher, resulting in little or no savings. In fact, as soon as your house hit above its normal temperature, it will lose energy to the surrounding environment more slowly.
During winter, the lower the interior temperature, the slower the heat loss. So the longer your house remains at the lower temperature, the more energy you save, because your house has lost less energy than it would have at the higher temperature.
And, as always, make sure your home’s comfort systems are in tip-top shape by ensuring you have a clean media filter, and call us at 801-999-4220 to schedule a tune-up or inspection if you think your system may need a little boost in performance.
Make the Switch
